Delivery - FAQs

  • Are there different sized delivery vehicles?

    Deliveries are made by large 6-wheeler oil trucks only, if your property has restricted access please ring to check if we can deliver to your property.

  • Can you make unattended deliveries?

    Providing we can gain access to the tank you don't need to be at home when we deliver. All our deliveries are metered and
    you will receive a printed delivery docket, so you know exactly how much home heating oil was delivered. These meters
    are regularly audited by the National Standards Authority of Ireland.

  • How do I find out how much oil you have actually delivered?

    Our driver will leave you a printed delivery docket from the tanks meter which will show exactly how much oil was delivered.

  • How far can you deliver from the tank?

    Most of our trucks have a 120ft (40m) hose. This is ample for most delivery situations.

  • What can I do if I think I may run out of oil before my delivery arrives?

    If you think you may run out of oil before we deliver to you, please contact us on 044 93 406 93 and we will do our best to ensure your oil is delivered before you run out.

  • What if I have a discrepancy with the amount of fuel delivered?

    If you've paid for an order of a higher value than the amount of fuel that we delivered, we will credit your account with the difference between the price that you paid, and the corrected price on the new invoice total for your fuel, on the day of delivery. If you have a query with your order, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • What if my order has not been delivered?

    If your order has not been delivered, the first step is to check the delivery date you have requested. While we always endeavour to deliver within the timescale you requested there are occasions where this may not be possible. We will always endeavour to notify you in advance if such a situation occurs. If you still think your order has not been delivered, please do not hesitate to contact us to check.

  • How do I know I got my full measure of oil delivered?

    The NSAI fit a tamper proof seal and official sticker on our meters as proof testing which ensures with Whelan Oil you get full volume and full money’s worth.

Ordering - FAQs

  • Can I cancel or change my order?

    Yes, you can cancel your order, provided you notify us at least two working days before the final scheduled delivery date, we will cancel your order and refund your payment minus a cancelation fee of €25 which is applied to any order which is cancelled, this is to cover banking and administration costs. So please inform us as soon as possible. If you need to change your order, please contact us as soon as possible and we will make every effort to accommodate your request.

  • Can I split my order in two with another delivery address?

    If you order and pay for a delivery and wish that it be split between your address and with another delivery address it is now two different deliveries. Therefore a Charge of €30 applies to any order which is placed and is then required to be split between two different addresses, this is to cover the extra vehicle running costs, administration costs and time incurred by the driver.

  • How do I pay?

    When you order at Whelanoil.ie and cheaperoil.ie, you can select the payment method with your order in which you would like to pay by clicking on debit card, credit card. When you choose your payment type you will be then transferred to a Banking Realex 3Dsecure payment encrypted page.

  • Why do you need my personal details and are they secure?

    The details we store are the minimum required to complete orders as safely and efficiently as possible. All optional personal information is used to provide you with an enhanced service that will make the oil buying process easier and more cost-effective. Your details are secure and we’ll never pass on your details to any third parties – you are much too valuable to us.

  • How many litres are there to the gallon?

    There are 4.546 litres to an imperial gallon.

  • What can I do to save money when I order?

    One of the main ways to save money on your order is by ordering larger quantities and you will get a better cent per litre rate.

  • What is the VAT rate for home heating oil?

    All domestic customers pay 13.5% VAT on home heating oil.

  • How can I get advice on running my home heating system more efficiently?

  • What is the difference between Kerosene and Gas Oil?

    Kerosene, also known as 28 second oil, is produced after the distillation process of crude oil. Most domestic systems run on Kerosene because it provides a cleaner and more efficient burn for your home. Gas Oil (green diesel), also known as 35 second oil, is more commonly used in agriculture and industry. Gas Oil is less combustible than Kerosene and has more carbon atoms.
